Prime Minister Vasile Tofan has announced that the Republic of Moldova is strengthening security and defence cooperation with the European Union amid increasingly frequent drone sightings over the country. In a Facebook post, Tofan said that during a meeting in Brussels, he discussed current risks and ways to boost Moldova’s defence capabilities with Kaja Kallas, the EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, reports noi.md. “The Republic of Moldova is a neutral state. But neutrality does not mean a lack of defence,” wrote Vasile Tofan. In his words, cooperation with the European Union will be expanded under the Security and Defence Partnership, the European Peace Facility and the EU Mission to Moldova. These mechanisms are expected to help develop expertise, provide equipment and enhance response capabilities. “We are a small country, but with strong partners we can feel much more confident,” Tofan added, thanking the European Union for its support.
