Home / Security / Tofan: Moldova’s Top Defense Priority Is Acquiring Anti-Drone Interception Systems
Prime Minister Vasile Tofan said Moldova is negotiating the possibility of participating in procurement under the European defense program SAFE, which Romania has access to.
“We want to cooperate with partners that have more advanced technologies, including Romania. We have very good relations with its authorities. We discussed this cooperation, including the exchange of military technologies under SAFE, with Prime Minister Niculescu,” Euronews reports.
“One of the issues we are negotiating is the possibility of Moldova participating in procurement under this program. We are considering various partnership formats. We are indeed a neutral country. But neutrality does not mean being defenseless or failing to invest in our own defense,” the head of government stressed.
According to Tofan, Moldova intends to invest in strengthening its defense capabilities. He identified the acquisition of anti-drone interception systems as one of the main priorities, describing it as a cost-effective way to protect the country’s airspace.
The prime minister also warned that he expects information propaganda and cyberattacks to intensify, describing them as a reality of the present day.
