Igor Dodon: Socialists Will Mount Large Protests in Autumn

This autumn the Party of Socialists will organize protests not against particular political actors, but to explain people who have ruled the country during past nine years, the Moldovan President Igor Dodon said in Acces Direct show, NTV Moldova, IPN reports. “I think the Socialists should mount large protests in autumn, but not against particular actors, they should explain people who have ruled the country during past nine years,” said President Dodon. As to the demonstrations and counterdemonstrations held recently in Moldova, Igor Dodon said that those who have been in power for the past nine years protest against each other. Igor Dodon noted that three government scenarios are possible after the upcoming parliamentary elections. According to a scenario the Socialists would win a majority of seats and would rule alone or together with several independent MPs, another scenario supposes a right-wing coalition against Socialists, which is rather hard, and the third one is holding early parliamentary elections. “If we do not reach a compromise, we will insist on holding early parliamentary elections where the Socialists would win more. This is our firm and clear position that is fair in relation to everyone,” Igor Dodon stated. The head of the state does not rule out the possibility that he will head the PSRM’s list because the head of state is not banned from doing this. At the same time Igor Dodon said that the Socialists Party will have its candidates in all districts. The president argues that there should be more polling stations for our diasporas, in particular for citizens who are in the Russian Federation. In addition, Igor Dodon believes that citizens who are abroad should have two days to vote, because they have to travel hundreds of kilometers to exercise this right. The head of the state added that the government will not accept these proposals, because they are not interested.
