First NATO Air Base to Build in Balkans

NATO declared its intention to build an airbase in the Albanian city of Kucove. It will be the first one on the Balkans, Albanian Prime Minister Edi Rama reported this on his Facebook page, replyua.net informs. “The North Atlantic Council approved the decision to build the first air base in the Western Balkans in Albania”, he wrote. The first stage of the project to be set up this year will be invested over 50 million Euros.  According to Rama the air base in Kucove will support NATO supply operations, providing logistics support, training exercises. The air base will also serve as a national base for the Albanian Air Forces. Rama expressed his hope that NATO air base in the country will assist in Albania’s military speedy progress.
