Voronin: Moldova Hastily Signed the EU Association Agreement

Moldova hastily signed the EU Association Agreement, passed an opinion for golos.ua the ex-president of Moldova, the leader of the Party of Communists Vladimir Voronin. “Moldova is torn between East and West. The EU Association Agreement signing was a rush. Moldova could live for 20-25 years without it at least. They signed the agreement the same day with the leadership of Ukraine and Georgia”, the former head of the Moldovan state reminded. According to him, the communists, being in power, were engaged in modernization process but not European integration issues. “You cannot be in the center of Europe and not meet European standards, otherwise there will be no economy, no trade, no export, no import, and so on, no investments”, the PCRM leader said. He recalled that over the eight years of the Party of Communists leadership, investments in Moldova grew eightfold. “People believed in us. We wrote off all historical debts. We enacted two special laws, called Guillotine-1 and Guillotine-2, which wrote off tens of billions lei. Then we drew a red line and said: all sorts of indulgences have ended from now on; here is electronic control over the payment of all types of taxes and everything related. We reduced the number of inspection bodies, because they took bribes to make money from inspection. We created the most favorable conditions for economic agents. For example, they were free from paying profit tax if they reinvest this profit into its own business. Therefore, everything developed and there was enough money to increase wages”, Vladimir Voronin said. The former Moldovan president said that the most important PCRM policy was social orientation. “We analyzed all the election campaigns, when the majority voted for us and we ran the country as we met commitments made before the elections. We 5-times overfulfiled our program. Because life is much richer and more diverse, you cannot specify things in the pre-election document which will happen in four or eight years”, PCRM leader said.
