With the introduction of European integration amending the constitution should not be limited by conditions, as some parties require now. This amendment should fix the country's irreversible course towards European integration. This statement was made by Chairman of the Parliament Andrian Candu, IPN reports. “We want to introduce in the Constitution some provisions that will guarantee the movement of the Republic of Moldova towards the European Union, and that European integration is our development model. If we had such a provision in the Constitution, then any other law that does not comply with this vector would be declared unconstitutional”, said Andrian Candu during the Replica program on Prime TV channel. The head of parliament noted that he would vote for a change of the name of the state language in the Constitution, as the Liberal Party demands, but half of the Democratic Party of Moldova thinks differently. “Why do we have be challenged now, if we all believe in European integration and there are less those who believe in the Romanian language, even if it is a scientific reality?”, asked Andrian Candu. The chairman of parliament says that if the amendment is not adopted this week, there will be no time left to return to this issue. “Even if we vote in a week or two, the president will reject it, return it to the parliament, and we will not be able to adopt it again. And then we need to re-go through the procedure - again to get the opinion of the Constitutional Court, and so time is lost”, said Andrian Candu. Political analyst Anatol Ţăranu said that in politics there are such moments when you need to play in the interests of a political opponent, but the interests of the country are more important than the struggle between parties. According to him, in any situation – either the adoption of changes in the Constitution or not, the Democratic Party benefits. The Dean of the Faculty of International Relations, Political and Administrative Sciences of Moscow State University Alexander Solkan believes that the introduction of European integration into the Constitution is for the sake of common interests, surpassing some personal interests. This creates a legal and political framework for European integration that does not allow any authority to change this vector. In his opinion, the change would eliminate the geopolitical differences that constantly occur in election campaigns, and during election campaigns political opponents would raise practical problems faced by citizens.
