The INF Treaty affects the vital interests of Europe, the German Foreign Minister said. To maintain the Treaty, Berlin is ready to work with Moscow, the Maas said. German Foreign Minister Heiko Maas intends to seek the help of the North Atlantic Alliance in order to avoid U.S. withdrawal from the Intermediate-Range Nuclear Forces Treaty. The head of the foreign ministry said this in an interview with the Funke newspapers, published on Tuesday, October 23. An agreement affecting the “vital interests of Europe” should be on the NATO agenda, noted Minister. He highlighted Berlin’s intention to fight with “all diplomatic means” to keep alive the 1987 pact. “We are ready to work with Russia to force its compliance with the INF. We are not ready to set off a new arms race”, added Heiko Maas. Source: DW
