Spanish Defense Minister Margarita Robles commented on the idea of the French President Emmanuel Macron on the creation of a European army. According to her, the Spanish government “positively assesses this proposal and everything that contributes to the strengthening of the European Union”. Robles is convinced that this plan should be implemented in the framework of “utmost cooperation and integration between the EU and NATO structures”, reports RIA Novosti citing La Vanguardia newspaper. In early November, Emmanuel Macron proposed to create a European army, which would be independent of the United States. Europe is now faced with numerous attempts to interfere in its internal democratic processes and cyberspace. According to Macron, the EU army could provide, including cyber security. Macron’s proposal has already been supported by German Chancellor Angela Merkel. At the same time, the project was sharply criticized by U.S. President Donald Trump, who considered this idea insulting. According to the official U.S. State Department spokesperson Heather Nauert, the United States opposes any action that could lead to the weakening of NATO. Source: Rosbalt
