U.S. Secretary of State Mike Pompeo at a meeting with the Foreign Minister of Ukraine Pavlo Klimkin said that the United States and Ukraine will keep working together to stop the Nord Stream-2 project, U.S. Department of State reports. “We’ll keep working together to stop the Nord Stream 2 project that undermines Ukraine’s economic and strategic security and risks further compromising the sovereignty of European nations that depend on Russian gas”, he said. At the end of May, Pompeo declared the need to create conditions under which Russia would not be able to use energy supplies as an instrument of pressure on Europe. However, the Russian embassy in the United States said that in this way Washington "imposes its uncompetitive liquefied natural gas”. In June, the President of Ukraine, Petro Poroshenko, said that Kyiv had begun negotiations with partners from the European Union to halt the construction of the Nord Stream 2 gas pipeline. In his opinion, the project aims to deprive Ukraine of the funds received for the transit of gas. In November, U.S. Ambassador to the European Union Gordon Sondland announced that the United States could introduce new sanctions to block the construction of the gas pipeline. Subsequently, the head of Gazprom, Alexey Miller, said that the Nord Stream 2 gas pipeline would be completed. Source: RBC
