The European Parliament spoke in favor of stopping the construction of the Nord Stream 2, which is considered “a political project”." The resolution was supported by 433 European parliamentarians, 105 were against, and 30 abstained. The European Parliament said Ukraine was playing a crucial role in the European energy supply network and the Nord Stream 2 was a political project that posed a threat to European energy security, the document reads. December 12, the U.S. House of Representatives approved a resolution advocating the imposition of sanctions on those involved in the construction of Nord Stream 2 and called for European countries to refuse to participate in the project. Currently, there are about 10 bills at the U.S. Congress against the energy sector of Russia and its export capacity to reduce Europe’s dependence on Russian energy. Washington believes that diversification of energy sources is the key to preserving Europe’s energy independence.
