The U.S. State Department urged Germany to heed the concerns of neighbors and to abandon the construction of the Nord Stream 2 Russian gas pipeline. The U.S. State Department supported the European Parliament’s resolution which states that a gas pipeline construction bypassing Ukraine poses a threat to European energy security and is the Kremlin-backed political project. The U.S. State Department also supported the decision of the European Council to extend sanctions against Moscow because of the Russian border guards’ seizure of Ukrainian military ships and crews in the Black Sea. Moscow said that U.S. State Department statement was interference in the affairs of sovereign states. Source: svoboda.org
