Brussels Does not Intend to Revise the Treaty of Brexit

Union rejects proposed British Parliament’s negotiations on changing the Treaty on Brexit, said the press Secretary of the President of the European Council Donald Tusk, оn Tuesday, January, 29. According to him, this decision is discussed with the remaining 27 EU States. “The Brexit Treaty is and remains the best and only way to ensure an orderly exit of the UK from the European Union. Backstop (the mechanism, which insisted the EU to avoid customs and border controls between EU member Republic of Ireland and the British province of Northern Ireland – Ed.) is also part of the agreement, and the agreement does not involve revision”, – said the representative of Tusk. The British parliamentarians on Tuesday called for further negotiations with EU to change existing agreements with the EU on the border issues with Ireland, DW reports. The majority of parliamentarians are against backstop, which should come to force if London and Brussels fail to reach a new agreement on trade by the end of 2020.
