Macedonia shall be officially renamed as the Republic of Northern Macedonia. The decision officially came into force on Tuesday, February 12. The government has already begun to change their logos. In late January, Greece ratified the protocol on renaming the former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia into the Republic of North Macedonia. The previous name of the state - the Republic of Macedonia - caused protests in Greece as there is  historical region of Macedonia in Greece. Local nationalists believe that other countries do not have the right to be called the same as the Greek historical region. The dispute over the name between the countries lasted 30 years. The name change opens the way to NATO and the European Union for North Macedonia. Representatives from NATO's 29 member states signed an accession agreement with Macedonia, starting the formal process for membership of the Western military alliance. Source: svoboda.org
