The U.S. ambassador said that the United States ratcheted up engagement in Poland with significant military boost. This is due to the fact that Russia and China have consolidated their influence in Central Europe. The U.S. plans to significantly increase its troop numbers in Poland, said country’s ambassador to Warsaw Georgette Mosbacher. The U.S. ambassador told about a significant increase in U.S. troop numbers. It is noted that Polish officials persistently lobbied creation of a permanent American military base in the country. Warsaw offered to provide up to $2bn towards funding it. According to the American ambassador, the military buildup in Poland is not associated with the creation of a U.S. base. American military contingent buildup in Poland comes as Washington launches a diplomatic push in central Europe, where U.S. officials are concerned that Russia and China have established a foothold in recent years. Meanwhile, Mike Pompeo, U.S. secretary of state, launched a tour of the Eastern Europe with a visit to Hungary in which he pledged to try to prevent central European states from falling into the orbit of Russia or China.
