The Republic of Moldova, more than ever, needs the support of the USA in the fight against corruption, money laundering, regional smuggling and monopolies,
said Prime Minister Maia Sandu during a joint press conference with U.S. Under Secretary of State, David Hale, who paid a visit to Chisinau, reports the IPN.
The existing Government, unlike ex – Government, has the political will to stop all these wrong deeds and illegal schemes. In this regard, the Prime Minister said, Moldova greatly relies on cooperation with the U.S. Government in law enforcement, fight against corruption and justice sector.
Maia Sandu added that the United States has been and is a strategic partner for Moldova in efforts to become free and democratic. The U.S. has supported Moldova since its independence, providing $ 1.4 billion. The U.S. has built roads, implemented infrastructure projects and provided decisive support to Moldova at the international level. Unfortunately, our country has not been able to take full advantage of this support and experience.
According to the Prime Minister, the United States has created a system of random distribution of court cases in Moldova, which can significantly reduce corruption in the judicial system. However, this system was used maliciously.
Under Secretary for Political Affairs of the United State Department of State David Hale expressed support for democratic Moldova. According to the official, there comes a period of hard work.
He added that he would like to see the government, together with civil society, implement constructive reforms so that all citizens can benefit from economic growth and European integration.
The U.S. official noted that the U.S. will support and assist the Moldovan government in the fight against money laundering and corruption, ensuring energy security and an independent press.
At the same time, the US welcomes the decision of the Sandu government to accelerate the implementation of the Association Agreement and the IMF program.
