The Minister of Finance Natalia Gavrilita met with the head of the EU delegation in Moldova, Peter Michalko on July 17. According to the press service of the Ministry of Finance, the parties discussed the renewal of financial assistance to Moldova. Peter Michalko said that the first tranches from the EU budget support program, in particular, a grant of 14.5 million euros, will be transferred in the coming days. The total amount of EU budget support will exceed 45 million euros. Peter Michalko also told the Minister of Finance that the Moldovan authorities should discuss with European officials the size of the next tranches of financial assistance, as well as determine the time of their receipt. Natalia Gavrilitsa thanked him for his support and noted that the Ministry of Finance will continue to coordinate external assistance programs. The EU representative also noted that Moldova receives the largest financial assistance from the EU per capita, so it is very important that it can use all the provided funds. It should be reminded that Moldova would receive €14.5 million from the EU in the coming days, said Minister of Foreign Affairs and European integration Niku Popescu and EU Commissioner for Enlargement and Neighbourhood Policy Johannes Hahn on July 15. "The unblocking of financial assistance is a clear signal from the EU about the support of Moldova and its citizens, as well as an assessment of the already taken measures," Hahn said. Newsmaker
