This statement was made by the Minister of Foreign Affairs and European Integration Nicu Popescu.
Speaking about relations of the Republic of Moldova with the Russian Federation in an interview for Radio Europa Liberă, the Minister noted that “in the interests of the Republic of Moldova to normalize these relationships so that Moldova could export more into the market of the Russian Federation, as exports to any market of Russia, Ukraine, China, Georgia, Turkey create jobs.”
For this reason, according to the Minister, Moldova wishes to have more stable relations with the Russian Federation.
“In these relations with the Russian Federation, the Republic of Moldova wishes to export, to revise the new gas contract, but will not revise the objectives of its foreign policy.
The Republic of Moldova continues European integration, wants balanced relations with the Russian Federation, but the Republic of Moldova will not participate in integration into some post-Soviet structures, in political integration, we want cooperation,” said Nicu Popescu.
“Under no circumstances the Eurasian Union is not an objective of the foreign policy of the Republic of Moldova. Good relations with the Russian Federation, Ukraine, Belarus are important foreign policy objectives, but the Republic of Moldova does not want to be integrated with these countries or with some post-Soviet organizations, such as the Eurasian Economic Union. The only goal of Moldova’s integration is the European Union,” the Minister concluded.
He also said that in early September he would go to Moscow and then to Bucharest.
