President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky signed the law abolishing parliamentary immunity. The law is to come into force on January 1, 2020.
Ukrainian deputies are to be detained, arrested and prosecuted without the consent of the Verkhovna Rada.
The abolition of parliamentary immunity was one of the main campaign promises of President Volodymyr Zelensky.
Earlier, the draft law was supported by a majority vote of the Ukrainian parliament. MPs voted for the version of the document proposed by the previous Ukrainian president Petro Poroshenko. The previous convocation of the Verkhovna Rada, despite promises, could not review this bill.
