Gazprom intends to stop gas supplies to the Ukrainian gas transportation system from January 1, 2020 if a new transit agreement is not concluded, stated a letter from the Russian company addressed to Naftogaz, said executive director of the Ukrainian company Yury Vitrenko in an interview with Deutsche Welle. According to this letter, Russia is going to “cut off gas” at 10:00 Moscow time, a representative of the Ukrainian company said. If the transit contract is not prolonged, and Russian gas continues to transit though Ukraine, then Naftogaz will pump it into its underground storage facilities and store it until it has an owner with documents. Vitrenko emphasized that Ukraine “will neither steal nor take nor consume it.”
