Nastase: A single Apolitical Candidate Should Be Nominated in the Presidential Election

Last night, the PPDT held a meeting of the party’s Politbureau to discuss new parliamentary elections planned in Hincesti district on March 15. Following the meeting, PPDT leader Andrei Nastase said that the best solution would be along with the Action and Solidarity Party to nominate a single candidate but representing no party, tv8.md reports. “We saw that representatives of other parties stated that they have their own candidates who will participate in the elections, but the PPDT is focused on consolidating pro-European forces and of course, the elections in Hincesti are a rehearsal for the presidential election. We could choose a single apolitical candidate. This can be done provided that there is political will. The PPDT remains consistent and does not deviate from its course,” Nastase said. Also, according to the politician, despite the fact that they have their own candidate, the PPDT is ready to discuss with the PDS, as well as with other pro-European political parties, the search for a single candidate in the autumn presidential elections to increase the chances against Igor Dodon. “The PPDT is ready to run in the presidential election, we have our own candidate, but we are ready to discuss a common candidacy with other parties. This will significantly increase our chances,” Nastase added. The politician stated that socialists spend a lot of money on election campaigns, so Igor Dodon has good chances to become president of the country again. “Dodon is supported by outside forces, with huge financial capital. We saw this during the 2016 campaign, in the local election campaign in 2019, for which they spent the wagons of dollars and blossomed forth,” Nastase said. Recall that the chairman of the Action and Solidarity party, Maya Sandu, previously stated that the party she leads already has a candidate for the new parliamentary elections in Hincesti constituency, but she refused to name this person.
