The US President unveiled his plan for a Palestinian-Israeli settlement. US President Donald Trump has proposed the creation of a full-fledged Palestinian state with a capital in East Jerusalem as part of the concept of two states in the Middle East. The corresponding statement was made by the American leader on Tuesday, January 28, in the White House following a meeting with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu. Trump presented his plan to resolve the Palestinian-Israeli conflict. The head of the American state said that Jerusalem will remain the "undivided capital" of Israel, while the plan of the American administration will ensure the creation of a "Palestinian capital in East Jerusalem, where America will proudly open an embassy."   According to some observers, Trump's commentary on Jerusalem’s future is controversial. This opinion is shared, in particular, by the former US Ambassador to Israel Dan Shapiro. The situation is “completely odd”, he twitted. Meanwhile, in accordance with the information voiced during previous briefings at the US State Department, we can talk about an agreement on a joint right to use territories in East Jerusalem. In turn, Netanyahu, who stood next to Trump while peace plan was released and then made his own statement, calling this plan a “realistic way” for a durable peace in the region. Palestinians must recognize Israel "On this day, you have outlined a bright future <...> for Israelis, Palestinians and the region, presenting a realistic plan for durable peace," he said, adding that he was open to negotiations with Palestinians to move "towards a future state." At the same time, Netanyahu added that Palestinians must recognize the Jewish state of Israel. According to Netanyahu, Israeli law will extend to parts of the West Bank of the Jordan River- the Jordan Valley - and to all Israeli settlements in Judea and Samaria. Thus, according to him, the United States actually agreed to recognize that the valley belongs to Israel. In fact, this may indicate Washington’s support for the annexation, dpa agency notes. Hamas leader opposes Trump's "deal of the century" Meanwhile, as AP reported, the head of the Palestinian National Autonomy (PNA) Mahmoud Abbas, and the head of the political bureau of the radical Islamist movement Hamas Ismail Haniyeh have already held telephone talks and discussed joint steps to resist the Middle East plan put forward by Trump. "We reject the so-called" deal of the century "and will oppose its implementation in all directions," Abbas said. In turn, Haniyeh noted that Hamas and Abbas-led Movement for National Liberation of Palestine (Fatah) are on one side and "will defend national unity." "For us, any project that infringes on the legitimate rights of the Palestinian people is unacceptable," Haniyeh emphasized. Trump's photos burnt in Gaza Thousands of Palestinians took to the streets of Gaza, the largest city in the PNA, to protest. Shouting "the plan will not work," they set about burning car tires, US flags, and Trump photos. Jordan's Foreign Minister Ayman Hussein Abdullah Al Safadi has also stated that he is opposed to any unilateral Israeli measures, including the "annexation of Palestinian lands."
