The Romanian Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MFA) has condemned Moldovan Prime Minister Ion Chicu for criticism. This was reported on May 22 in the ministry’s press release. Chicu said earlier that Romania “is moaning under the biggest corruption in Europe.”
The ministry believes that “such statements indicate deep disrespect”.
“The statements made by Prime Minister Ion Chicu are inappropriate, especially after Romania assisted Moldova amid the coronavirus pandemic, demonstrating its solidarity. Such statements demonstrate disrespect for Romania and bilateral relations of strategic partnership in Moldova’s European integration,” the ministry stated.
Recall that the European MP Siegfried Muresan wrote on his Facebook page that the Moldovan government is not coping with the crisis caused by the coronavirus pandemic because it has not managed to cope with the reforms. At the same time, the MEP noted that the Cabinet of Ministers under Maia Sandu’s leadership was the best government in Moldova.
Chicu responded to Muresan’s criticism, “I look at these Romanian boys in European structures who are trying to take “patronage” over us. Perplexed, achieved nothing in life, fitting only to serve the balls.”
The Moldovan prime minister also criticized Muresan. On his Facebook page, Chicu posted, “What have you done for your country, which is groaning under the biggest corruption in Europe? You one Suceava county has as many patients with coronavirus as half of all infected in Moldova. And about the same number of doctors. Those who died from COVID-19 in the counties of the Moldovan part of Romania are 40% of all deaths in the country. And twice as many Moldovans died on the right bank than on the left bank, though the population is equal.”
