The authorities of the United States (USA) are already examining Moldova's request to extradite the former Democratic Party leader Vlad Plahontniuc, who is being prosecuted in Moldova for a billion fraud from the banking system. However, how much time this process will take is unclear, the US ambassador to Chisinau Dereck Hogan believes, nokta.md reports. “The request is being examined, so I can’t say anything about this process, but there is a direct link between the relevant authorities of the USA and the Republic of Moldova. A pandemic worldwide has affected activities of authorities in all countries, but, as I understand it, the consideration of the request for extradition has already begun," the US representative in the Republic of Moldova said. The ambassador claims that the most important thing in this case for the Moldovan authorities is to submit all the documents that they have, and which, in their opinion, indicate Plahotniuc’s involvement in crimes against the country. In mid-June, the Attorney General's Office announced that it had sent a request to the United States to extradite Vlad Plahotniuc.
