Unrest could break out in Moldova if the representing eastern interests’ candidate wins the November 1st presidential elections. This is the opinion of the political analyst Corneliu Ciurea. The analyst does not rule out that the situation now observed in Belarus may repeat in Moldova, infotag.md reported with reference to ria.ru "In Eastern Europe, in the post-electoral period, unrest is always possible, since external forces, and especially the West, have created all the conditions for holding protests after each election. Therefore, in any case, if the representing eastern interests’ candidate wins, unrest is possible, the Moldovan opposition is already using technologies to get a Maidan organized for this case, " Ciurea noted. According to him, opposition politician Maia Sandu in advance expressed doubts about elections’ fairness if another candidate wins. "Disagreement with the victory of the opposing candidate is a prerequisite for organizing a protest. The irreconcilable opposition ready to only discuss corruption and human rights, can also be regarded as preconditions for holding riots, adding to that the media being fueled from outside and the control over the space in social networks," Ciurea explained. He believes that it will be more difficult to organize a protest if one of the presidential candidates in Moldova wins in the first round. "The opposition can challenge the election results and organize protests if the authorities are unable to organize elections abroad due to the pandemic," he said.
