Presidential elections were held in Moldova last Sunday; the head of the republic is elected for a four-year term. The CEC recognized the elections valid, as the voter turnout exceeded the required 33.33%. threshold. According to the CEC, after processing 100% of protocols, ex-premier Sandu won the first round with 36.16% of the vote, bypassing the incumbent President Dodon, who got 32.61% of the vote. Since none of the candidates recieved more than 50% of the votes in the last elections, the runoff is expected to take place on November 15.
