Presidential candidate Maia Sandu claimed Moldova needs external resources in order to "put the economy on its feet" and subsequently develop independently. This is how the politician responded to Igor Dodon's accusations that “she will stand hand outstretching in Europe,”  cotidianul.md reported. In an interview with Europa Libera, Maia Sandu said that “Igor Dodon destroyed the economy, using state institutions to harass and pressure businessmen”. “Igor Dodon destroyed the economy when not helping companies at all during the crisis. He plundered the Moldovan economy and continues stealing through corruption schemes he inherited from Plahotniuc, besides he developed some of them himself. These schemes are used to raise money for personal and party purposes. We need a period to put the economy on its feet, to help it survive and not close factories, not close jobs. We need to give the economy a break to restart its engines,” Sandu said. She also explained why does Moldova need medium term external funding. “Yes, we will attract external resources, cheap resources, some of which are grants, some are loans but at a very, very low interest rate, much lower than the loans the government takes today from the national banking system, and we will offer help to people. Today people need this help. Igor Dodon doesn't know, because he doesn't care the way citizens live. They need help and the economy needs help as well. In a medium term, we will build a strong economy that will generate sufficient income so that we will not need significant external funding,” the PDS leader said.
