The incumbent President Igor Dodon believes that early parliamentary elections will definitely take place in 2021. He stated this live on Friday in his social media podcast "President Igor Dodon Answers", infotag.md reports. "The current parliament should be dissolved, there is no doubt about that. Initially there were five factions in parliament. The number of parliamentary groups and factions today is not clear. There is no parliamentary majority. We need to find a way to dissolve the parliament. But we shouldn't provoke a political crisis now. The elections should be held in 2021. The corresponding solutions can be found," Dodon says. He advised President-elect Maia Sandu to start consultations with parliamentary factions after taking office. The incumbent president, who previously favored a presidential form of government and a strong presidential power, reminded the president-elect that Moldova has a parliamentary form of government. "When I tried to give her an advice a year ago, when she was prime minister, she reminded me that this should not be done in a parliamentary republic. And now she intends to do the same - to call the government on the carpet, and so on. But the republic is parliamentary! Show the same approach! And if people have choosen you, take responsibility, overthrow this government, form a new one, take responsibility for the pandemic, the budget and so on," Dodon urged. He also stated that the socialists are not holding on to power and will not block the new president's activities.
