The on-the-run MP Ilan Shor called on the National Bank, the Prosecutor General's Office and the Ministry of Finance to start discussing how to return the billion stolen from three Moldovan banks. According to Shor, the shareholders of the banks, from which they stole the billion, are ready to pay off debts on their own, and then claim them from "real beneficiaries."
On April 30, Ilan Shor said his lawyers appealed to the Prosecutor General's Office, to the Ministry of Finance and to the National Bank with a request to start a discussion on how to return the billion stolen from three banks.
“Now the floor is theirs. They need to appoint their representatives and initiate a discussion. I convinced the shareholders of the banks to pay the damages imputed to them, and then demand this money from the real beneficiaries. We have to find out whether the authorities really want to return the money, as they have promised the citizens for seven years, or all these are empty words,” Shor wrote on his Facebook page.
Recall, Ilan Shor
gave the second big press conference in the last year on April 27. Like last time, Shor demanded that prosecutors remove his arrest so that he could fully “participate in the public life of the country” and attend court hearings. He also said that he and the shareholders of the banks, from which they stole a billion, are ready to pay off debts on their own, and then demand them from "real beneficiaries."
The Cahul AC (Appeals Chamber) is considering the case of billion dollars theft from three Moldovan banks. In this case, the court of first instance sentenced Shor to seven and a half years of prison. Shor and his lawyers appealed the verdict to the Appeals Chamber (AC). Pending the final verdict, the trial court released Shor under judicial control. In February 2018, the Supreme Court of Justice decided to refer Shor's case to the Cahul Appeals Chamber.
On September 19, 2018, Shor's lawyers made sure that the case was sent for financial and accounting expertise. Because of this, the meeting on the case was postponed for almost a year. In August 2019, it became known that Shor's case was returned to the Cahul Administrative Office, but the examination was never carried out. At the same time, lawyers believe that the court understood perfectly well they would not be able to conduct an examination, since back in 2014, the Banca de Economii documents were burned in a cash collection car.
While the case was being considered in the Cahul Presidential Administration, Shor left Moldova on June 14, 2019. A month later, he was put on the international wanted list. It was soon confirmed that Shor was located in Israel. The Prosecutor General's Office requested deputy’s extradition, but was refused.
