The Chairman of the Party of Socialists (PSRM) Igor Dodon said that he had sent an official letter to the Head of the Party of Communists (PCRM) Vladimir Voronin with a proposal to create an electoral bloc and run in early parliamentary elections on July 11. As Dodon noted in his video blog The President Is Answering on May 7, despite all the early disagreements, the PSRM and PCRM must unite to save the country from the “threat of chaos” that comes from the right-wing parties.
“I believe that all true patriots, all pro-Moldovan parties, all statesmen need to unite their efforts to defend Moldova. Let's be honest. You see the country is in danger. And you can see this danger, this chaos in Moldova. If these come to power with a Harvard and backpacks behind their backs, there will be total chaos. (…) That is why I issued a message to the center-left parties with an appeal to unite. I want to inform you that we have sent an official letter to Mr. Voronin with a proposal to create an electoral bloc. We are ready to do this. The past must be left behind. Voronin said a lot of bad things about me. They criticized us, we criticized them. But when it comes to the interests of the state, to the interests of the country, of the population, of citizens - let's put everything aside,” Dodon said.
Dodon noted that over 30 years of Moldova's independence, the most productive period in politics was 2009, when Voronin was president, Zinaida Greceanîi was prime minister, and he was Minister of Economy.
“Everyone considers that period to be the best period of government in Moldova. So why not reviving this team and move forward?” Dodon said.
The day before,
the Party of Communists announced that it was ready to unite in an electoral bloc with the Party of Socialists (PSRM) to participate in early parliamentary elections. “The PCRM and the leadership of the party remain at the same positions when assessing the activities of the PSRM and its chairman Dodon,” the formation noted, explaining their decision to create a bloc with the socialists by the fact that “in the current political situation, there are real threats of right-wing unionist forces to come to power. And this jeopardizes the independence and sovereignty of Moldova, the statehood of the country”.
