President of the Republic of Moldova Maia Sandu will pay an official visit to Berlin on May 19-20. The visit will take place at the invitation of the President of the Federal Republic of Germany Frank-Walter Steinmeier in order to give a new impetus to bilateral relations between the two countries, moldpres.md reports with reference to the press service of the presidential administration. On the first day of the visit, May 19, Maia Sandu will meet with German President Frank-Walter Steinmeier, after which the heads of the two states will hold a press conference. In the afternoon of the same day, President Maia Sandu will have a conversation with German Chancellor Angela Merkel. Also during her official visit to Berlin, Maia Sandu will take part in hearings on the Republic of Moldova in the Parliamentary Commission on Foreign Affairs and the Commission on European Affairs, and will also meet with MPs from the parliamentary parties of the Bundestag. High-ranking officials who will meet Maia Sandu will include the chairman of the Christian Democratic Union, Prime Minister of North Rhine-Westphalia Armin Laschet, Federal Foreign Minister Heiko Maas, Federal Minister of Defense Annegret Kramp-Karrenbauer, Chairman of the Parliamentary Committee on European Affairs Gunther Krichbaum, and Chairman of the Foreign Policy Committee Norbert Röttgen. In Berlin, Maia Sandu will raise several topics, such as improving bilateral relations between Germany and the Republic of Moldova, the political and security situation in the country and the region, the support we need to mitigate the pandemic consequences, stronger economic cooperation, better conditions for the Moldovan diaspora in Germany. Furthermore, President Maia Sandu will take part in a public discussion on the topic "Moldova - a New Beginning", organized by the Konrad Adenauer Foundation. This will be preceded by a meeting with Mr. Norbert Lammert, President of the Foundation, and Gerhard Wahlers, his Deputy. The official delegation, which will accompany the President of the Republic of Moldova Maia Sandu in Germany, will include the presidential adviser on foreign policy Cristina Gerasimova and the economic adviser Veaceslav Negruta.
