More than 100 thousand Moldovan citizens abroad registered in advance to participate in the early parliamentary elections on July 11.
The registration procedure ended on May 26. The largest number of Moldovan citizens who announced their intention to vote are residents of Italy - 21,803 compatriots registered on the platform provided by the Moldovan electoral authorities,
moldpres.md reported.
The Moldovan diaspora in the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland was just as active, with 16,183 citizens declaring their intention to vote.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and European Integration asked the Central Election Commission on May 25 to open more polling stations abroad than in the presidential elections. According to the request, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and European Integration is considering the possibility of doubling the number of polling stations in which more than 5,000 Moldovans have voted, in order to avoid violating the right to vote.
In the 2020 presidential election, several polling stations open overseas ran out of ballots or the time required to vote expired before everyone could vote.
