Five mayors from the Democratic Party of Moldova (PDM) from the Straseni region announced their withdrawal from the political formation, declaring themselves independent.
The chairman of the Democratic Party, Pavel Filip, commented on this decision of his former party members, saying that “some forces are attacking the PDM because they want to divert Moldova from the European course,”
cotidianul.md reported.
“I understand why attacks on PDM have intensified now, because our well-organized teams are determined to show themselves worthily in these parliamentary elections. That is why some forces are attacking the Democratic Party, because they want to deviate from the European course of our country,” Filip said.
“Some destructive forces have long been operating in the Straseni district, the tools of which are well known: from the purchase of deputies at the start of the election campaign to the purchase of local elected officials. However, there are special people in Straseni. I know this very well because I am a member of the constituency. They know how to make the right choice and can make a difference. That's why don't even try, people will punish you with their voices. On the other hand, intimidated colleagues should not delude themselves with generous offers, because the villagers will punish them too. Do not take money to betray the team, which has done a lot of good for your settlements, for the Straseni district as a whole,” the PDM leader also said.
At the same time, Filip turned to government agencies, primarily to SIS, with a request to monitor and track cases of bribery of local elected officials in order to ensure free and fair elections.
“There can be no talk of free and fair elections when bribery of local authorities, mayors, local councilors, voters,” said the leader of the Democrats.
In conclusion, Filip said that despite this pressure, the PDM will find itself in the future parliament and will make Moldova's European path irreversible.
