Maia Sandu asked the prosecutor's office to inform the public in detail and in a timely manner about the procedures applied in the case of Alexandr Stoianoglo, about the reasons for the request for his arrest, as well as about other measures requested by the prosecutor in the case.
This appeal was posted on the head of state's Facebook page today, October 8, when judges are considering the prosecutor's request to arrest Alexandr Stoianoglo for 30 days.
“The case of Prosecutor General Alexandr Stoianoglo is of great interest to society as a whole, and we must ensure maximum responsibility. Therefore, we need more clarity in the processes that are currently taking place in the Prosecutor General's Office, and in the actions of the Prosecutor's Office. Citizens' trust in this institution depends both on the effectiveness of its activities and on the correctness and transparency of procedures.
I ask the Prosecutor's Office to inform the public fully and in a timely manner about the procedures applied in the case of Alexandr Stoianoglo, about the reasons for requesting arrest for 30 days, as well as about other measures requested by the prosecutor in the case, in strict accordance with the law. In this case, as in all others, maximum transparency is needed. Concealing any information or committing any abuses is unacceptable”, the head of state wrote.
Recall that based on the request of Deputy Lilian Carp, the Supreme Council of Prosecutors approved the start of an investigation against Prosecutor General Alexandr Stoianoglo, who was immediately removed from his post, and then detained in the evening for 72 hours in connection with the initiation of a criminal case against him.
Dmitri Robu became Acting Prosecutor General.
