The parties discussed the resumption of diplomatic missions of both countries. Another round of negotiations will be required.
US and Russian diplomats will hold another round of talks on restrictions on the work of embassies in Moscow and Washington. This was announced on Tuesday, October 13, by the US State Department representative, Ned Price, at a briefing in Washington, commenting on the results of Undersecretary of State Victoria Nuland's visit to Moscow.
“We have agreed to another round of talks, and we hope that further talks can lead to a decision so that our mission in Moscow can resume its normal activities,” Price said.
According to him, subsequent discussions will take place at a lower diplomatic level, probably at the level of the deputy assistant secretary of state.
“But we really hope that these discussions will bear fruit because we really want open channels of communication with Moscow. We do believe that a fully staffed or adequately staffed embassy in Moscow is essential to our goal of ensuring the free flow of information for the responsible management of bilateral relations with Moscow," Price said.
He noted that Nuland's visit to Moscow was "useful, there was an open discussion at her meetings."
"Our position on the staffing of our mission remains firm. We expect staffing parity and expect visa reciprocity. There must be fairness, there must be flexibility on the Russian side if we want to reach an equitable agreement," Price said, adding that exactly this is what the United States is striving for.
We will remind, on the eve of Moscow proposed to Washington to remove restrictions on the functioning of diplomatic missions.
It was also reported that Nuland in Moscow is discussing the resumption of Donbas negotiations.
