London will provide Kiev with economic assistance in addition to defensive weapons, and NATO’s Bucharest Nine will support Ukraine in strengthening security, Ukrainian News writes.
The UK has allocated 88 million pounds (104 million euros) to Ukraine as economic assistance. Such data were provided by the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine Dmytro Kuleba during a briefing, the Ukrainian News publication reported on Friday, February 4. According to the Foreign Minister, London will provide this amount in addition to defensive weapons.
Besides, in the near future Ukraine will receive “the latest weapons” from Poland and the Czech Republic, the publication indicated. According to it, the states of the NATO’s so-called Bucharest Nine (Bulgaria, Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania, Poland, Romania, Slovakia, Hungary and the Czech Republic) will provide Kiev with additional support in strengthening security due to the threat from Moscow.
Aggravation of the situation on the border of Russia and Ukraine
Tensions between the West and Russia have grown in recent months. The Russian Federation has transferred more than 100 thousand servicemen to the annexed Crimea and to the border with Ukraine, explaining this by military exercises. Western leaders fear that Moscow is preparing for war.
The Kremlin denies plans for such an operation and accuses the West of arming Ukraine and conducting maneuvers near the Russian borders. The January series of negotiations between Russia and the United States, NATO and the OSCE did not bring results. The West calls on Moscow to withdraw troops from the Ukrainian border threatening with strict sanctions.
