The President of the Republic of Moldova, Maia Sandu, was invited to Brussels to address the plenary session of the European Parliament.
Leaders of the European People’s Party (EPP) group sent a corresponding message to the President of the European Parliament, Roberta Metsola, which was adopted at the conference of chairmen of parliamentary groups, deschide.md reports.
According to EPP Vice President Siegfried Muresan, the letter addressed to Roberta Metsola states that in the tense political context of the Eastern Neighborhood, “there is a country in the region where there are positive developments, and this is the Republic of Moldova.”
“I said that now there is a pro-European political majority in Chisinau, which in recent months has shown that it wants and can carry out reforms expected by the population. A majority that seeks rapprochement with the European Union.
I also said that the main actor of this positive evolution in the Republic of Moldova is President Maia Sandu. That is why by inviting Maia Sandu to the plenary session of the European Parliament, we are sending a clear signal regarding support for reform efforts in Chisinau and rapprochement between the European Union and the Republic of Moldova,” the MEP said.
After the issue is approved at the conference of chairmen of parliamentary groups, Roberta Metsola will send an official message to Maia Sandu regarding her speech at the plenary session of the European Parliament.
