The Prosecutor General’s Office has issued a statement on the results of the Audit Chamber’s audit, which found a number of irregularities at the institution. “Regarding certain shortcomings discovered by the Audit Chamber audit, we inform that the Prosecutor General’s Office has taken measures and, as there is a reasonable suspicion that certain offences took place, a criminal case was opened under the leadership of the Anti-Corruption Prosecutor’s Office,” Violina Morari, a spokesperson for the press service of the Prosecutor General’s Office, told Noi.md. The Court of Accounts of the Republic of Moldova examined the report on the audit of the compliance of the procedure of formation, management and utilisation of public financial resources and state property by the Prosecutor General’s Office in the period 2018-2022. The SPRM concluded that during the audited period the Prosecutor General’s Office had a partially functional system in terms of compliance, which led to numerous irregularities in the use of public money, including fraud risks, as well as deviations in the management of state assets. At that, the Court of Accounts submitted 16 audit recommendations in order to remove the identified deficiencies.
