Moldova is not exposed to military risk from Russia, NATO deputy head Mircea Geoana says. According to him, the Kremlin uses hybrid warfare tools to influence the situation in Moldova. Geoana mentioned cyberattacks and incitement to social revolts. The official said that NATO seeks to strengthen Moldova’s resilience by respecting its neutrality.
“We see no military risk from the Russian Federation towards Moldova. Ukraine is doing a good job to minimize this military risk. It doesn’t mean that the Russian Federation has sopped using an arsenal of hybrid warfare, from the energy weapons to cyberattacks, disinformation, impact on democratic mechanisms, fomenting social revolt,” Geoana said.
The Alliance representative noted that “neutrality does not mean the absence of an effective army in Moldova.” According to official, Moldova and NATO are working to ensure that Moldova has a defense system in line with the NATO system, and the bloc’s members approve the allocation of additional defense funds by the Chisinau authorities.
