US President Joe Biden has sent an invitation to Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky for a meeting at the White House on 12 December.
The Ukrainian leader’s office said that the visit to the USA would start on 11 December. In addition, Zelensky plans to meet with the speaker of the US House of Representatives, Republican Mike Johnson. White House press secretary Karine Jean-Pierre said that the American president invited the Ukrainian counterpart “to outline the resolute commitment of the United States to support the people of Ukraine.”
“Key topics for discussion in Washington will be further defense cooperation between Ukraine and the United States, in particular through joint projects on the production of weapons and air defense systems, as well as coordination of efforts between the countries in the coming year,” the Ukrainian president’s office said in a Telegram message.
A spokesperson for Mike Johnson said that the House Speaker’s meeting with Volodymyr Zelensky would take place at the Capitol. For Volodymyr Zelensky, this is the second visit to the USA since the beginning of the military conflict in Ukraine. Zelensky will travel to the USA from Argentina, where he took part in the inauguration of President Javier Milei in Buenos Aires.
