At the meeting of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe (PACE), Ukrainian MP Oleksiy Goncharenko asked whether the Transnistrian problem could be solved by all means, including military ones. The Ukrainian politician was also interested in the possibility of Moldova joining NATO. “Moldova still hopes to resolve the issue of occupied Transnistria peacefully. They are still working on public opinion regarding the need to join NATO. I hope that Moldova will hear the signals and start building its defense against Russia by eliminating Transnistria. This issue is important for us because these territories border Ukraine,” Goncharenko said. Earlier, Moldovan Foreign Minister Mihai Popşoi said that Moldova was committed to a peaceful settlement of the conflict. “There is a constant struggle going on there between more reasonable people oriented towards the economy and pro-Russian individuals who are looking for escalation, who want to create problems. We see no alternative to a peaceful resolution of the conflict,” Popşoi said.
