The election was called after the death of President Ebrahim Raisi in a helicopter crash.
“The sun of hope will rise over Islamic Iran. I will submit my documents to the election headquarters as a representative of the women’s community of my native country,” the candidate said. At the end of four days, 20 candidates had registered, bringing the total number of presidential aspirants to 37, Irib TV reported.
Among the registered candidates are the former head of parliament, former head of Iran’s Central Bank, former commander of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps, mayor of Tehran and Iran’s spiritual leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei’s representative on the Supreme National Security Council.
Six incumbent members of the Iranian parliament have also expressed their desire to run.
