A special parliamentary commission will seek for a way out of the crisis in agriculture. Within three months, it should propose a package of measures and laws to help farmers.
Farmers complain of heavy losses due to the drought and heat of recent weeks, moldova1.md reports.
The cause of losses was soil and atmospheric drought, low humidity and high air temperatures, including at night. The Power of Farmers Association earlier demanded to declare a state of emergency in the agriculture, as well as to introduce a moratorium on fines for overdue loans. The Ministry of Agriculture said at the time that the problems could be solved without declaring a state of emergency. In particular, farmers can obtain a certificate of force majeure, which will postpone the payment of fines.
Drought and heat in Moldova
In Moldova, the red weather danger level was declared for almost a week in most parts of the country due to the heat wave. In some areas the air temperature during these days reached +40 degrees Celsius and there was no precipitation. Maize and sunflower fields suffered the most from unfavorable weather conditions, especially in the south of the country.
