PDCM Chairman Ion Chicu expressed concern about the uncertainty in gas supplies to Moldova from January 1.
In an interview for NewCast, he noted that the contract for gas transit through Ukraine expires on December 31, and so far the government does not have a clear decision on this issue, reports newtv.md.
"Now we have uncertainty, and no one can say for sure where the gas will come from on January 1. The government claims that it does not depend on Russia, but at the same time the Minister of Energy is going to negotiate with Gazprom, which confirms that we still get gas from there,” Chicu said. He added that this primarily concerns gas supplies to the left bank of the Dniester.
Chicu also stressed the importance of an alternative route passing through the Black Sea and Isaccea, but expressed doubts about its reliability. “This route is questionable, as the situation in Ukraine continues to escalate. We cannot rule out that gas supplies from there will be impossible,” he added.
Recall that Energy Minister Victor Parlicov will travel to St. Petersburg on November 25 to discuss with Gazprom’s management gas supplies to Transnistria after January 1, 2025, when the contract for gas transit through Ukraine expires.
