On the air of the Rezoomat show on the Rlive TV channel, the acting head of Moldovagaz, Vadim Ceban, commented on rumors about the possible nationalization of Moldovagaz.
He stressed that any decision on this issue is the sovereign right of the government, but should be made on the basis of the legal framework and international agreements, bani.md reported.
“A government or a state has the sovereign right to decide what to do with certain strategic objectives. But this should be done on the basis of the legal framework and international agreements. I think that this was the task of the prime minister assigned to the Justice Ministry - to analyses first of all the legal aspects,” Vadim Ceban said.
He also noted that a possible expropriation entails significant costs and requires shareholder compensation in accordance with the law.
“For all works of public interest, this aspect must be analyzed. Decisions must take into account the protection of property rights and international agreements that take precedence over national legislation,” Ceban added.
When asked about the benefits of the possible nationalization of Moldovagaz, Vadim Ceban said: “It does not help, gas does not appear that way. But it helps from the point of view that the government assumes certain strategic goals and can manage them in the national interest”.
The interim head of Moldovagaz said that he had not been officially informed about the decision in this regard.
