Railway Workers Prepare for Mass Strikes from February

The railway workers are demanding the payment of salary arrears, which exceeded 190 million lei from July to December 2024. Trade Union Federation of Railway Workers of Moldova announced the organization of demonstrations and strikes in front of the Parliament, the Government, the Presidential Administration, as well as in all eight railway hubs of Moldova since February to demand an immediate solution to the problem of multi-million wage arrears, infotag.md wrote. Federation chairman Ion Zaporojan said that “railway workers are desperate, as countless appeals, rallies and demands sent to state bodies remain unheard”. According to him, “the salary arrears from July to December 2024 exceeded 190 million lei, and the Railway of Moldova (RM) is facing a number of problems that jeopardize the state enterprise’s activity - bank accounts have been blocked for more than two months, there is a shortage of diesel fuel and the most necessary consumables for normal functioning.”
