This project envisages the construction of a 400 kV overhead transmission line. The project also includes the reconstruction of the substation in Balti and the rehabilitation of segments of the electricity networks. The European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) will provide Moldova with a grant of 15.4 million euros for the implementation of the project “Interconnection of electricity networks between Moldova and Romania, phase II”, writes rupor.md. The government said in a statement that the project will contribute to improving energy security, especially in Moldova’s northern region, which is one of the most vulnerable. The authorities stated that the implementation of the project will significantly increase the flexibility of the country’s electricity system, as well as integrate additional renewable energy capacities. “The project contributes to enhancing the country’s energy security and improving the quality of electricity supply for citizens and businesses,” government officials said. The EBRD grant will cover 20% of the total project cost of €77 million. The remainder will be financed by a loan from the EBRD and the European Investment Bank.
