Moldova’s budget deficit will continue to grow over the next two years, exceeding 20 billion lei in 2026 and remaining above 5% of GDP.
These figures are included in the draft Medium-Term Budget Framework (MTBF) for 2026–2028. Only in 2028 is the budget deficit expected to fall to 18.6 billion lei, which will amount to 4.2% of GDP, according to mold-street.com.
The Ministry of Finance states that the estimates in the 2026-2028 MTBF are based on “the latest trends and forecasts for macroeconomic and budgetary indicators” and that “the medium-term outlook is positive, with an optimal balance between fiscal consolidation and support for economic recovery.”
