Seven agreements signed on the platform of the Commonwealth of Independent States were denounced by the Government. The relevant decisions were approved at today’s meeting of the Cabinet of Ministers. One of the decisions provides for the denunciation of the Agreement on visa-free travel for citizens of CIS member states through the territory of its participants, concluded in Bishkek on 9 October 1992. Earlier, representatives of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs explained that the denunciation of the agreement would not affect the travel of citizens of the Republic of Moldova and the Russian Federation, but would only affect citizens of Tajikistan and Kyrgyzstan. This is due to the fact that a separate agreement has been signed with Moscow, which remains in force, according to deschide.md. The following were also denounced: - Agreement on principles and procedures for the conduct of military transports, concluded in Tashkent on May 15, 1992. - Agreement on principles for levying indirect taxes on the export and import of goods (works, services) between the states participating in the Commonwealth of Independent States, concluded in Moscow on November 25, 1998. - Agreement on cooperation in the field of chemistry and petrochemistry, signed in Moscow on September 9, 1994. - Agreement on cooperation in the field of using compressed natural gases as fuel for automotive means of transport, signed in Minsk on May 26, 1995. - Agreement on cooperation in the field of ecology and environmental protection, concluded in Moscow on February 8, 1992. - According to Foreign Minister Mihai Popsoi, the above-mentioned projects do not benefit the citizens of the Republic of Moldova in any way. “Today’s decision does not change anything for our citizens. We are simply putting things in order, given that these agreements do not actually benefit the citizens of the Republic of Moldova. Many of them (the agreements – ed.) either did not work or were long ago denounced by a significant number of the founding states,” he explained. Following the denunciation of the agreements, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Chisinau will notify the CIS Executive Committee of the decision taken by the Moldovan authorities.
