Home / Politics / Chisinau Authorities Discuss Transnistria Reintegration Plan with EU and U.S.
This was announced by Prime Minister Alexandru Munteanu, who is currently on an official visit to Brussels.
The head of government did not provide any further details, noting that it is premature to make the plan public, ziua.md reports.
“We are currently discussing a plan for the reintegration of the Transnistrian region with our European and American partners. I cannot provide any details at this stage, but such a plan is indeed under discussion,” Alexandru Munteanu said.
Note that negotiations on the Transnistrian settlement, which had been held in the “5+2” format, involving Russia, Ukraine, and the OSCE as mediators, as well as the European Union and the United States as observers, were suspended after Russia’s invasion of Ukraine. Since then, the issue has been put on hold. Despite the repeated claims that this format of dialogue is outdated, no alternative solution has been proposed.
Moreover, in the context of European integration, President Maia Sandu and other officials in Chisinau have noted that they are considering the possibility that Moldova will initially join the EU only with the territory under its control, and that a solution for the reintegration of the left-bank communities will be found later on.
