Maia Sandu published a congratulatory message on the occasion of 1 December – Romania’s National Day, emphasizing the importance of protecting the values of peace, freedom and democracy, noting that today these values are “under threat as never before”. “Today we celebrate the historic moment of December 1, 1918 – a moment that opened the path to peace, freedom, and democracy for the Romanian people more than a century ago. But these values are threatened now more than ever,” said the head of state in a statement posted on Facebook, according to tvrmoldova.md. The President emphasized that in the current difficult context, “it is our duty honor through deeds the efforts and sacrifices of those who made the historic decision at Alba Iulia possible. Let us defend their legacy so that we, in turn, can leave our children and grandchildren a Romanian space where they can live freely, with dignity, and with respect for national values”. “Happy Romania Day! Happy holiday to all Romanians!” wrote the head of state.
